Subios ... all sails ahoy! |22 November 2013

All sea lovers are invited to Beau Vallon, more precisely at the Regatta site, to the much-awaited Subios, the Seychelles festival of the sea, from today, Friday November 22, to Sunday November 24.

Although many activities to mark the festival have been launched many months ago, it is only this week that the Subios takes place in earnest.

The festival will start with the arrival of some international reggae stars. For the first time in the festival’s history, the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) has joined forces with Explorer entertainment to add a musical twist to the festivities aimed at highlighting the importance of the ocean – which is also two thirds of the Seychelles territories.

First to arrive early yesterday morning was Everton Blender and he will be followed by Mr Vegas this morning and Tanya this afternoon.

The popular reggae artists performing at the mini stadium in town will not be the only attraction at the festival this year.

The STB will also have educational games and fun days organised at the Regatta site at Beau Vallon as well.

Traditionally, the Subios is held to educate and create more awareness about the importance of the beautiful turquoise blue seas of Seychelles. This is done through photo and video competitions launched earlier in the year. Video and photography enthusiasts were invited to submit their best works of the underwater world in the quest to win air tickets in return.

Still with the aim of educating the public, the event’s organiser has already published in the daily Seychelles Nation newspaper its annual treasure hunt – a word game that gives those who take up the challenge the chance to win a surprise prize sponsored by Jouel jewellers.

Finally for those interested in the sea as well as sports, they will be performing in the triathlon – swimming, running and canoeing – at Beau Vallon again with the hope of clinching one of the many interesting prizes.

The STB has said that it has this year kept with the tried and tested formula of including sports, entertainment and good food to educate people about the wonders of the sea that surround us.
