The Chinese embassy has donated a new bus shelter as well as games and sports equipment to the Grand Anse Mahé authorities.

Chinese ambassador Shi Zhongjun handed over the bus shelter at Souvenir La Misère (which falls in the Grand Anse district) on Friday in the presence of Minister for Land Use and Housing Christian Lionnet, who is Parti Lepep’s central committee member for Grand Anse Mahé, and the district’s member of the National Assembly Lenny Lebon.

Others present were special adviser for community development Dan Frichot, district administrator Raymonde Benstrong, general manager of the Shenyang construction company Jiang Changchun and other representatives of the embassy as well as La Misère students.

The delegation then proceeded to the Grand Anse Mahé NSC hall for the handing over of the equipment and games.

Mr Lebon expressed words of thanks to Mr Shi and the embassy for the two donations.

He said the games and sports equipment will play a major role in keeping the district’s youth away from bad influences such as substance abuse.

Mr Lebon added that this will be a great boost to the efforts being made in relation to the social renaissance programme.

Ambassador Shi said the donations form part of the district projects being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports.

He added that this is a way to strengthen the ties between Seychelles and the Chinese government through the embassy.

Mr Shi said China is happy to help Seychelles with its social and economic development.
