Rotary Club of Victoria Coco de Mer officially chartered |06 December 2013

The recently registered Rotary Club of Victoria Coco de Mer was officially chartered recently.

This was during a gala evening hosted by the newly opened Treasure Cove Hotel at Bel Ombre and attended by distinguished guests and members of the club.

The Charter Night is a very special moment in the life of a new Rotary Club as it is its official public launch.

More than 70 guests enjoyed the evening, among them the president and members of the sponsoring Rotary Club of Victoria, members from the Round Table and the Soroptimists.

To grace the ceremony and highlight the importance of the event, the present District Governor of    Rotary Jean Rovelonarivo was present, along with two past districts governors, Alain Le Bihan and Bertrand Miclo.

“It is a first in a charter night to see so many dignitaries from the District,” said the past District Governor Alain Le Bihan who helped and supported the new club to set up and establish itself.

“We  wanted to show our deep appreciation and encouragement to the Rotary movement in Seychelles which, after 44 years of being a ‘one Rotary Club country’, decided to open its wings and spread it wider to have a second Rotary Club,” he said.

As mentioned by Michel Remacle, the founding president of the Rotary Club of Victoria Coco de Mer in his address, “a second club which meets after working hours enlarge the possibilities to well intended professional ladies or men to join a Rotary Club in Seychelles and to serve as Rotarians”.

The new club was registered with the Rotary International in June 2013 and has presently 18 members. Besides setting up the structure of the club and its operational organisation, they did not lose time to start their fundraising activities and community services. The first action was to encourage some of the former patients of the Wellness Centre by providing them with gardening tools and equipment which will help those who want to start a new life. More actions are being planned by the club.

The club meets every Thursday at 5:15pm at Maison de Football and it alternates working meetings with fellowship meetings and meetings with guest speakers.

Members of the Rotary Club of Victoria Coco de Mer also meet at lunch time.
