New domestic terminal by end of 2015 |10 December 2013

The foundation stone has been laid for the construction of a new domestic terminal at the Seychelles International Airport.

The project will also include the refurbishment of the existing one.

Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan, chief executive of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) Gilbert Faure and general manager of corporate affairs at Air Seychelles Alan Renaud laid the foundation stone on Friday at the airport.

The project is fully funded by the SCAA at a cost of R70m and is expected to be completed in a period of two years.

The aim of this project is to better the services and capacity, provide attractive business and meet the expectations of clients.

Work will include the construction of a new check-in area and departure lounge, new area for passengers waiting in transit to or from other islands and a new restaurant and snack bar.

The existing terminal will be refurbished and converted into an arrival area. Other smaller facilities and commercial areas will also be built.

The project will be done in three phases to allow operations to continue without having major negative impacts on customer services and efficiency of operations.

Mr Morgan said the new domestic terminal is a much-needed project to invest in as it will not only benefit passengers using these services but the airport in general.

He added that it also shows the government’s commitment towards the tourism industry and aviation.
