Christmas fair marks civil aviation day |10 December 2013

Held last Saturday, the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority’s (SCAA) Christmas fair this year coincided with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Day, celebrated on December 7.

Various local entrepreneurs had responded to the organisation’s call and had mounted stands of assorted products such as toys, clothes, food and drinks which were on offer to an enthusiastic crowd.

The sale of balloon-like plastic aeroplanes had however become the day’s main attraction. As soon as the children had bought their colourful toy aircrafts, the gadgets were seen flying like kites above the airport’s car park. And the flight simulator installed nearby seemed to offer aviation training to the novice pilots!
The chief executive officer (CEO) of the SCAA Gilbert Faure said he was satisfied with the turnout of vendors as well as the general public, especially children who were really enjoying themselves.

He has promised that the fair will be held again next year, but has however foreseen a change of location.

He explained that as work on the new domestic terminal will be ongoing, and in order to exploit more space, the activity will surely be moved to the airport’s north side car park.
