7th Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning |16 December 2013

Vice-President Faure honoured at major education conference

Vice-President Danny Faure has become the first Seychellois recipient of the Fellowship Award for outstanding contributions towards the development of Open and Distance Learning Education.

The award was conferred on him by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) at the seventh Pan-Commonwealth Forum (PCF7) held in Nigeria from December 2-6, 2013.

The award ceremony, which took place on December 3, was presided over by Professor Asha Kanwar, the President and chief executive of the COL, who conferred the vice-president with the title ‘Honorary Fellow’.

The award was bestowed on Vice-President Faure for his pivotal role in the transformation of the education system in Seychelles and more significantly his leadership role in the creation of the Virtual University for Small States in the Commonwealth (VUSSC).

Joseph Nourrice, Seychelles ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union, collected the award on behalf of the vice-president.

Ambassador Nourrice remarked that this was a remarkable achievement for Seychelles and commended the dynamic leadership that has brought one of the smallest member states of the Commonwealth such recognition.

Ambassador Nourrice noted that more often than not, the commitment of the leadership rather than size is one of the most important ingredients for success, and commended the leadership, commitment and tenacity of the vice-president towards the realisation of the VUSSC.
