Intelvision officially launches services on Praslin |19 December 2013

The local internet, telephony and cable TV provider Intelvision yesterday officially launched its services on Praslin during a ceremony at its offices in the Pension Fund Complex at Grand Anse.

Present for this historic occasion were the company’s chief executive, Akhil Mathur; the principal secretary in the Department of Information, Communications and Technology (DICT), Benjamin Choppy, who was also the guest of honour for the occasion; officials and staff members of Intelvision.

“The official launch of Intelvision services on Praslin is to be the start of a well segmented structure headed by young professional men and women for the benefit of technology migration,” said Mr Mathur.

After cutting the ribbon to officially declare the services open, Mr Choppy started off by congratulating Intelvision on behalf of DICT for successfully setting up its offices and bringing its services to Praslin, noting that it has been a while since Intelvision has been planning to do so.

He said DICT welcomes this decision because in addition to Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are also part of the market.

He ended by personally congratulating the CEO of Intelvision and staff for successfully making that happen.

Frederick Abhrams, IT manager at Intelvision, then gave a small demonstration on how best to watch and handle your films and decoder for the best viewing experience.

It was also noted that more than twenty households had already registered within weeks of the pre-launch of Intelvision’s services recently.

Tamatave Estate, Coco Rouge Estate, Grand Anse Central, Brittania, Lablache Estate, Collie Estate and Bel Air are the current areas connected to internet and IP TV services. This will be followed by Baie Ste Anne and subsequently other regions.

According to Solina Kowlessur, the branch manager of Intelvision Praslin, Anse Kerlan will be connected by June next year and Consolation at the end of the same year if everything goes according to plan.

“Since registration, no clients have ever called complaining of bad services. Of course there are hiccups as is the case to all newly launched services, but we had already educated the customers regarding our service,” she said.

Ms Kowlessur also said that at present Mahé call centres take the calls but Intelvision Praslin deals with the issues.

She also said that eventually Intelvision will cover the whole of Praslin and right now demands from Côte d’Or and Baie Ste Anne are quite high.

Two Praslin residents who have already been connected to Intelvision’s internet and television services gave their views on how they see the service. Meggy Barbe of Lablache Estate said she is new to the chains of channels on the Extravagance Bouquet and she has also registered for a starter capped internet package of 1GD costing as low as R100.

“I am a fanatic of football. Sports are my passion so I jumped at the opportunity offered by Intelvision. I am also satisfied with the promptness of the Intelvision team on Praslin,” said Karl Souffe of Grand Anse.

Intelvision feels proud to be one of the first providers in the region to deploy IP-based converged triple play solutions by providing voice, video and data. Praslin is receiving connection through GPON based FTTH (Fiber To The Home). The customer can receive his/her TV channels along with internet and a fiber connection also means that power cuts will result in least disruption of services. Furthermore IPTV subscribers can also enjoy value-added services such as VOD (Video on Demand) and Time shift functionality.
