IECD celebrates 1st anniversary with Christmas carol recital |20 December 2013

“That our hearts are filled with joy this Christmas, to welcome Jesus as a nice gift in our lives.”

Those were the wish of children echoed through the words of Jade Arrisol and Giran Stravens as the Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD) yesterday celebrated its first year of existence and thanked its partners for their support with a Christmas carol recital at the Théâtre des Palmes at Mont Fleuri.

The event brought together partners, staff members, parents and other people involved in early childhood development who were entertained by songs interpreted by the Children’s Choir accompanied by George Payet, other children and invited artists. The Children’s Choir is itself a close buddy of the IECD.

The choir was joined by the sweet voices of Alexandra Duckworth and Kelly Mathiot. To add icing to the Christmas cake cut by Jeanne Siméon, the principal secretary in the Vice-President’s Office, and IECD chief executive Shirley Choppy, the day’s surprise came from Sandra and Darren Bonnelame who seemed to appear from nowhere to offer two beautiful songs as a perfect Christmas gift.

Addressing the audience, Mrs Choppy said that the festive season is a fitting occasion to celebrate the successes and achievements of the organisation.

She thanked the Vice-President’s Office for being instrumental in the setting up of the IECD and for the support shown during the year.

She was also grateful to other partners for sharing the vision and passion for children development and to her staff for their dedication.

“We appreciate and value what you do. One achievement is the collaboration we have established with partners. We know what we have to do. Let us do it together,” Mrs Choppy said.

Mrs Siméon replied to Mrs Choppy by ensuring that the partnership forged will be strengthened when all partners and actors come together.

The afternoon also included presentation of certificates and gifts to children, adults and organisations that have taken part and helped in IECD activities during the year.

And Jade and Giran to conclude: “May God fill our lives with love, happiness and peace for this Christmas and all through the New Year.”
