Letter to the Editor: Salary incentives |23 December 2013

If we are going to create big incentives to keep people in certain jobs and entice others of high calibre into such positions – which we should – then we should be thinking more in terms of doctors, nurses and teachers, all of them indispensable to our society and equally valuable, if not more valuable, in my opinion, than 'constitutional jobs'.

We have, unfortunately over the years, lost too many top professional people, precisely because of unattractive inadequate salaries. Our priority now should be to lure them back to such important professions like Medical and Teaching that ought to be made more appealing and lucrative. They should be our primary concern and undoubtedly the focus of our attention when it comes to incentives.
