Anse Royale elderly’s residence celebrates silver Jubilee |03 January 2014

The Anse Royale Home for the Elderly celebrated 25 years of existence Sunday December 29. It was officially opened by the late Minister Ralph Adam in 1988.

The celebrations started on December 26 and ended with a mass that was celebrated on the anniversary date itself by Father David Alcindor from the Roman Catholic Church.

Among the guests attending the mass was the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton, member of the National Assembly for Anse Royale Dereck Samson, principal secretary for community development and sports Denis Rose, district administrator Rubina Ernesta, residents of the home and their families.

“Joining together today and celebrating the home silver jubilee is a proof of love that the society has for our elderly,” Minister Meriton said.

He also took the opportunity to announce that his ministry is working on a plan to renovate the home.

“I use this opportunity to thank all those who give your time and patience to our elders, and if we are here today it is due to their hard work they have done in the past,” Minister Meriton added.

“I wish that our children today grow up to be grateful and appreciate their grandparents,” he also said.

After the mass the guests interacted informally over refreshments and snacks and later on the residents were entertained by different activities such as Christmas carols, performances by young artists, among many others.
