New programme to promote values |04 January 2014

A three-year programme will be launched starting this month with the aim of promoting the values which are considered to be paramount for the continued advancement of our society.

The programme is an initiative of the youth department and the Seychelles National Youth Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

Under the banner ‘Values for One, Values for All’ (Valer pour Mwan, Valer pour Nou Tou), the programme will seek to reinforce the critical importance of making these ethical principles cherished by our society, a way of life within the family, the school compound, the workplace and the community at large.

Its main target will be adolescents and youth, as it is vital that the values that shape the character of our young people are inculcated at a very young age, so that their creativity, energy, attitude and skills are chanelled into positive actions, allowing for the development of their potential to the fullest.

The programme will also serve to complement the ‘Renesans Sosyal’ programme currently under implementation.

One ‘Value’ will be given prominence and lived each month, beginning with ‘DETERMINATION’ in January 2014.

The importance of living values as a protection against obstacles, temptations and harmful influences confronting our young people in their everyday lives, especially in a constantly changing world environment, was stressed by Vice-President Danny Faure when he launched the initiative on the occasion of the 12th edition of the Positive Youth Image Award ceremony last month.

He stated that values can be their compass on the road to life in normal as well as trying times.

The positive effects of the values will be sustained throughout the programme.
