Seychelles Women’s Community Award |07 January 2014

Hurry nominate your candidates

. Deadline January 20

Do you know a woman who has made or is still making your community a better place?

If yes, hurry and nominate her for the ‘Seychelles Women’s Community Award’.

The ‘Seychelles Women’s Community Award’ is an initiative of the Seychelles’ Women’s Day Association (SWDA) and its motto is ‘Service to others’ or ‘Rann servis’.

It is the third initiative of its kind organised by the SWDA chaired by Jeanne Simeon and which supports community actions involving women and children. The SWDA has in its two-year existence already hosted the Women’s Hall of Fame and published a coffee table book of what it has termed as “Seychelles’ heroic women”.

Nomination forms are available at the Lungos Office, district administrations, Cable & Wireless and Airtel customer services’ desks and post offices on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, or on line at madanmsesel@gmail.com.

Nominations for the ‘Seychelles Women’s Community Award’ must be submitted at the same offices or virtually at the same address before January 20, 2014.

The new award recipients will be rewarded on March 8, 2014 on the occasion of International Women’s Day, marking SWDA’s third anniversary.

The award targets deserving women who give time, knowledge and skills for the good of the community and who are considered as agents of change.

It will primarily reward what Mrs Simeon have called “unsung heroines” who are not followed by the press but who are selflessly and tirelessly working in the six award categories.

These categories are Health and Social Development, Community Empowerment, Promotion and Development of Small Enterprises, Environment Protection, Peace and Harmony Initiatives, and Promotion of Art and Seychellois Culture.

Anyone can nominate for the award a Seychellois woman over the age of 18, who is currently residing in Seychelles and who has been involved in community projects, programmes and /or activities for at least two years.

The nominees should:

-    Have initiated, implemented or taken part in projects, programmes, and/or activities that are beneficial to the community.

-    Be involved on a voluntary basis and not for her/their involvement, participation and contributions.

An individual can only be nominated for one category and the projects and activities the nominees take part in should not be politically oriented.

The organisers would like to point out that nominations not submitted as per criteria and eligibility requirements will be disqualified.

Meanwhile, the SWDA is calling on potential sponsors for prizes to be awarded to the awardees to contact the association on phone number 2612353.
