80-year-old gets Renault Duster SUV: It is never too late for luck to strike.

Winning a lottery is something most people would be delighted to experience, especially bagging the star prize.

Eugene Jean was the winner of the star prize – a Renault Duster SUV – of the Rotary Club of Victoria Christmas lottery and he received the keys to this new Renault Duster SUV during a prize-giving ceremony yesterday at the Golden Plate restaurant, Roche Caïman.

“I have won prizes in bingo but had never won anything in the lottery before,” said Mr Jean.

The 80-year-old man of Forêt Noire won the star prize with ticket number 37612. The star prize has been sponsored by Sun Motors and H. Savy Insurance has offered the winner 50% discount on a comprehensive insurance policy.

Mr Jean has not yet decided what he is going to do with the new Renault Duster SUV but said he is going to have a family discussion to weigh his options.

“I used to drive but I stopped driving since 1967 and I am not planning to get behind a wheel again,” Mr Jean added.

There were  several other prizes that were given away to the lucky winners such as a return ticket to any Air Seychelles destination, a laptop and 6 months internet connection with Cable & Wireless just to name a few.

There were a total of 24 prizes that were given away and the winners were Hidie Lesperance, Jean Paul Soffola, Xavier Zelime, Hazel Savy, Potpourri, Dolly Emile, E. Joseph, Ethan Barbe, Maria Sopha, Joseph Tirant, Sabella Labiche, Dania Elizabeth, Amaury Tirant, Serge Kilindo, Joel Valmont, Sabrina Philo, J. Raghvami, Ian Rigodon, Tony Volcère, Eddy Alphonse, Emily Lucas, Iyrah Houareau, Aiden Agathine & Gerda Monthy and Antoine Ah-Kong. M. Padayachy won the bonus prize.

All the winners accepted their prizes from Mario Rotolo, the president of Rotary Club of Victoria.

“The lottery has made a profit of approximately R300,000. We are planning to use this money in different projects such as drug education projects, prevention of teenage pregnancy and we are going to work with the Ministry of Education to donate some software as well,” Mr Rotolo said.

He added that the club has an agenda of activities for the year 2014 and said there will be a similar lottery at the end of the year.
