Partners join forces to boost students’ learning |17 January 2014

How decision-makers in the districts can work together with the schools and parents to identify problems that hold the students back from learning was the aim of a meeting  held this week ahead of the start of the new school year on Monday.

Although this meeting was for La Rosière school, it brought together leaders from not only the Mont Buxton district (in which the school falls) but also English River and Bel Air where many pupils attending La Rosière school reside.

Also present at the meeting, held at the La Rosière school, were the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton, who is also the chairperson of the Social Renaissance Committee, principal secretary for social affairs Linda William- Melanie, director general for infrastructure in the Ministry of Education Charles Confait, La Rosière school head teacher Beryl Botsoie and her management staff, as well as representatives of the parent-teachers association.

Minister Meriton said the school needs to have a strong relationship with decision-makers of the districts and with the parents as well.

“We need to find ways to boost the relationship that we have with parents as they are the key to our students’ future,” Minister Meriton said.

With the new school year that is starting next week the school will be targeting mainly social problems and bullying that are affecting the school’s progress.

As part of the social renaissance programme, Minister Meriton said that the MNAs, the DAs and the school management need to work together to overcome the challenges so that the students can work to their full potential.
