Barclays donates to NGOs |17 January 2014

Three local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), namely ‘Love and Care Association’; ‘Campaign for Awareness, Resilience and Education Against Substance Abuse’ (Care) and ‘Light Amidst My Path’ (Lamp), have received cash donations from Barclays Bank, totaling among them R441,600.

The donations were made yesterday afternoon at the bank’s Capital City office in the presence of Barclays Seychelles’ chief executive Rakesh Jha, the company’s board director Jean Weeling-Lee, head of marketing Coleen Morel as well as representatives of the three NGOs.

A communiqué from the company has said that through the funding provided to the three NGOs, it is once again reaching out to local communities in need to make a real difference to their lives, via the strengthening of their capacity to carry out community-based projects.

The bank has pledged to continue to invest in projects that truly make meaningful and lasting impacts in the lives of the more vulnerable members of our society.

Mr Jha commented that the donations reaffirm Barclays’ commitment in helping the NGOs attain their objectives.

“Barclays is delighted to be once again supporting worthy causes in the community that will ultimately empower the youth and other community members, helping them to become economically independent and self reliant via the new skills acquired. These three donations affirm the bank’s continued commitment to helping our local communities achieve their ambitions in the right way,” he said.
On their side, the three NGOs have thanked Barclays for the partnership and have promised to make good use of the money.

The ‘Love and Care Association’ which works with disabled people, will invest the R111,060 donation into ‘The Real Hope Project’ aimed at improving the literacy and IT skills of a group of 25 young people living with disabilities.

On its part, Care will use the R185,985 it has received to implement its ‘Rainbow Project’, a programme aimed at inculcating positive values, minimising and preventing at-risk behaviours among youths who are identified as displaying antisocial behaviour and learning difficulties.

The third NGO, Lamp, will through the R144,555 grant empower unemployed or underemployed delinquent youths with basic literacy, entrepreneurial and employability skills.
