New household survey to start on Monday |17 January 2014

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) will be starting a new series of Labour Force Surveys (LFS) starting Monday January 20, 2014.

This survey will be the first in a series of continuous household based surveys being introduced in 2014 to produce quarterly labour market indicators.

The LFS aims to collect quarterly data for measuring:

(i) the extent of available labour resources; and

(ii) the relationship between employment and other social and economic characteristics.

Such information may be used in planning, implementation and monitoring of policies relating to the labour market, economic development and welfare of the population.

Among other variables, the survey will focus on data collection related to employment, unemployment, status in employment and hours of work.  The survey will provide wider coverage of the potential labour force.

Officers from the NBS will visit a sample of households on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue on a monthly basis to interview household members.

The NBS is appealing to household members who are visited to give their full cooperation to the officers when they visit.

The public is reminded that the information collected will be treated with strict confidence and no individual information will be published.

The NBS would like to thank all members of the public for their support.
