World Bank chief executive to visit Seychelles |20 January 2014

The executive director representing Seychelles at the World Bank, Dr Denny Kalyalya, is on his first official visit to Seychelles from January 19 to 23, 2014.

Dr Kalyalya, who is of Zambian origin, was appointed as executive director on November 1, 2012 for the Africa Group 1 Constituency. This constituency elects one executive director every two years to represent all constituency members on the Board of Directors of the World Bank Group (IBRD, IFC, MIGA and IDA).

His constituency includes Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

With a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Dr Kalyalya has had extensive experience as an academic, after which he undertook work in Washington, D.C. with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a special appointee in 1997.  

While in Seychelles, Dr Kalyalya will meet President James Michel and Vice-President Danny Faure as well as Finance, Trade and Investment Minister Pierre Laporte.
