District emergency brigades on “ready” mode |20 January 2014

As Seychelles enters the peak of its rainy season, the over 400 members of the district emergency brigades in all districts on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are gearing up and ready to face any disaster that might occur.

The brigade members from 16 districts mobilised for an emergency preparedness activity recently to fill up gunny bags with coral sand. The aim was to be ready in case there is a need to use sand bags to build walls to avoid flooding in homes or even to build temporary walls to prevent further landslide after the collapse of terraces. The exercise was carried out on the premises of the DAs offices.

The brigade members who were mobilised for this activity came from Les Mamelles, Roche Caiman and Mont Fleuri.  The sand bags had been distributed to the Anse Aux Pins, Les Mamelles, Pointe Larue and Cascade district administration offices.

Similar exercises are being planned for other districts in the country.
