EUCAP Nestor has donated several pieces of equipment to the Seychelles Coast Guard, the Supreme Court and the Attorney General’s Office as a way of helping Seychelles maintain a sustainable maritime security.

It was Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan who had the honour of accepting the donation from the EUCAP Nestor head of mission, Ambassador Etienne de Poncins, in the presence of Chief Justice Fredrick Egonda-Ntende, Atorney General Ronny Govinden, French ambassador Genevieve Iancu, highly level officers of Seychelles forces, international dignitaries and the EUCAP Nestor’s staff.

The equipment include laptops, computer tablets, a large printer and positioning equipment GPS and ECDIS. The Seychelles Coast Guard received positioning equipments and laptop, the Supreme Court received computer tablets and the AG’s office received a large printer photocopier. They also received small mobile printers.

“I would like to thank the EUCAP Nestor for the show of support and I would like to take this opportunity to give you the assurance that with your help Seychelles will stay committed towards fighting the crime of piracy,” Minister Morgan said while accepting the donation.

Ambassador de Poncins said the EUCAP Nestor is very satisfied with the collaboration it has had over the past year with Seychelles.

“We are pleased to be supportive of Seychelles in the fight against piracy,” he said.

Ambassador de Poncins pointed out that the computer tablets that will be going to the Supreme Court has the Seychelles legislation installed.

He took the opportunity to officially introduce two new staff of the EUCAP Nestor and they are Lieutenant Flavio Sanguigni, Italian navy engineer management expert attached to the Seychelles Coast Guard and Björn Erlandsson, Swedish coast guard air surveillance maritime expert working with the Seychelles Air Force.

The EUCAP Nestor headquarters is in Djibouti. It is a civilian mission which assists host countries in developing a self-sustainable capacity for continued enhancement of the maritime security, including counter-piracy and maritime governance. The mission's annual budget is €23 million.
