During the ceremony held at India House at Au Cap Mr Darlong symbolically hoisted India’s national flag after which he read the message of Indian president Pranab Mukherjee for the occasion.

The relationship between India and Seychelles has long been characterised as one based on close friendship, mutual understanding and on cooperation.

With regard to bilateral relationship this has been very friendly and close and exchange visits at presidential, ministerial and other levels between the two countries have characterised that, he said.

Mr Darlong announced that another visit to India by President Michel shortly will further cement relations between India and Seychelles.

He added that the two countries will continue to collaborate and strengthen their cooperation in all the various fields namely health, education, ICT, maritime security, among others.

“In this relationship with the people and government of Seychelles, the local Indian community have all contributed and played a big part,” Mr Darlong said.

“I thank you all for your time and the many other ways you have contributed to make the first Seychelles-India Day a successful event,” he said.

“The first event should be an example to be followed by successive generations, governments and institutions,” he said.

Mr Darlong also expressed sincere gratitude to the protocol department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the SPDF, and other institutions and Indian nationals who have helped in one way or another to make the India Day and India National Day a success.
