Fond B’Offay water unfit for use, says PUC |29 January 2014

The Fond B’Offay water catchment on Praslin has been polluted following the recent landslide which occurred at the Vallée de Mai.

The Fond B’Offay water catchment is one of the three main water sources on Praslin and it supplies the whole Baie Ste Anne and Consolation areas.

The Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) has reported that the water is not fit for treatment and distribution, and it is now relying on its desalination plant to provide treated water to the affected areas.

Two site visits involving representatives of various concerned agencies, namely the Seychelles National Park Authority, the Seychelles Land Transport Agency, the Department of Environment, the Seychelles Islands Foundation and the PUC, have taken place with the aim of ascertaining the extent of the damage caused to the environment, precisely the impact on the water sources and finding a solution that will prevent further pollution of the Fond B’Offay water catchment.

The accompanying photographs show some of the damage cause by the landslide in the Vallée de Mai.
