NGO brings love and hope to Seychelles youth |30 January 2014

“Bring love and hope to the youth of Seychelles”. A reassuring sentence posted in front of the Lungos conference room on the first of a four-day capacity building workshop held recently.

The workshop was organised by the Everlasting Love Ministry in collaboration with Lungos (Liaison Unit for non-governmental organisations),

The Everlasting Love Ministry is an NGO founded in 2010 whose mission is to reach out to the youth of Seychelles and educate them about honorable moral values, enabling them to shun negative lifestyles. “Since 2012 the national social renaissance programme has amplified and worked in line with the Everlasting Love Ministry to fight against social ills,” explained its chairman Mr Fred.

The workshop served as training for the NGO’s members, as well as other faith based NGOs, ensuring that the participants gather essential knowledge in order to empower and inspire the youth.

The purpose of the workshop was to teach participants how to reach out to the community and help others in need.

While officially launching the workshop, the chief executive of Lungos Steve Lalande started by illustrating the evolution of Seychelles as a country and a society.

“We need different strategies for different times, we need to teach people to recognise what is happening and take corrective action,” Mr Lalande said, adding that willpower is paramount in order to take destiny in our own hands, because it is an essential fuel to our success.

The workshop programme included various topics covering administration/management to leadership skills as well as project writing and reporting.

Other points included strategic planning and communication/presentation skills. Counseling and information about drugs, alcohol and other substances were also given to the participants.
