Increasing employee productivity |10 February 2014

Do you want to increase productivity in your organisation? If your answer is yes, then there are a number of initiatives that can be introduced in your workplace to improve employee productivity, a few of which are listed below:

Recognition

Apart from recognition in monetary terms, employees can be rewarded by other means such as with a thank you card or a small gift for performing their duties well. This will help boost staff morale which in turn leads to greater output.

Delegating tasks

Developing a clear and precise action plan or productivity plan, employees will better understand what is expected of them and can set about completing their assigned tasks efficiently.

Tools and technology

Introducing new software, tools and equipment will enable employees to perform their duties in a more efficient and effective manner.

Training

Providing training to staff on a regular basis will help to improve staff effectiveness.

Competition

Staff can be motivated by setting clearly defined goals and targets for individual staff or teams. This will help to create a competitive environment hence increase productivity.

Performance base salaries

The introduction of performance base salaries usually leads to an increase in effectiveness and productivity. It is however advisable to set clearly defined goals and allow employees a reasonable timeframe to improve their performance.

Getting staff to focus

Staff focus is essential for employees to get things done. Coming up with ways to address or limit unnecessary distractions, for example, re- examining office policies and eliminating personal phone calls.

Keep staff loyal

Encouraging staff feedback, treating all staff with respect so that they feel like valued members of the company and improving company culture will create a conducive work environment.

Keep staff happy

A happy employee will tend to be more productive than a disgruntled employee. Keeping staff happy can be achieved by putting into place all the above mentioned points.
