GSC donates food items to elderly homes |17 February 2014

Global Supply Centre (GSC) Pty Ltd has donated a large consignment of food items worth R140,000 to all Homes for the Elderly in the country.

The donation took place recently at the Plaisance home in the presence of Sylvia Stravens, director for Homes for the Elderly; Kevin Savy, logistic manager at GSC; managers and carers from the different homes; GSC staff and residents of the Plaisance Home for the Elderly.

The food items include frozen sea food, sausages, salami, canned beef, canned chicken, canned mutton, whole lobsters, beef roast and different sauces.

Also among the items were canned soft drinks, juices, full cream milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, biscuits and different snacks to name a few.

The food items were unloaded from a fully loaded reefer truck by GSC staff and residents of the Plaisance Elderly Home.

When he donated the food items, Mr Savy said it is an honour for him on behalf of the Global Supply Centre to present the items to the elderly homes.

“This forms part of GSC’s social corporate responsibility activities. It is not the first time we have made such donation to the elderly homes. We have also made donations to the National Council for Children, schools and we will continue to do so in the future,” he said.

The food items were handed over by Swapna Arinapelly from GSC’s Administration and human resource to Louis Antoine, a resident of the Plaisance Home for the Elderly.

On behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports, the elderly homes and their residents, Mrs Stravens thanked the Global Supply Centre for their kind gesture.

“This shows that Global Supply Centre takes up seriously its social corporate responsibility and we assure you that the residents will enjoy the goodies especially the lobsters which are rare commodities nowadays,” she said.

She also called on other companies and individuals to think of the elderly homes in their social corporate responsibility activities as this will help better the lives of the residents. She also thanked all those that are doing so.

On the part of the elderly homes’ residents, father Peter Rath, a resident of the Plaisance Elderly Home, also thanked Global Supply Centre saying that the items are luxury for them as it is not always that easy for residents to go out and buy such items.

All food items will be distributed among the nine elderly homes – seven on Mahé, one on Praslin and one on La Digue.

Global Supply Centre specialises in importing food items for hotels, restaurants and the general public. It is based at the Seychelles International Business Authority (Siba).
