Disabled children treated to a day of fun |17 February 2014

Some disabled children enjoyed themselves recently in a party at Au Cap organised by Josie Chetty, senior pharmacist at Health World, and Gersende Eischler.

Every year, Ms Chetty organises events for the less fortunate. In the past, most events and charities were intended for orphans.

“This year I noticed that orphans are being well taken care of in comparison to disabled children, they don’t get as much attention and are often overlooked. So we decided to have a day for them instead,” Ms Chetty told Nation.

More than 60 children attended the party. They included disabled children and those from the Pointe Au Sel region who wished to join the festivities. The purpose was simply to make the children feel valued and blessed.

Music, singing and dancing were the main entertainment, while children had a mini karaoke party as they each took turns singing.  The kids also got the pleasure to play on a bouncy castle which had been set up outdoors.

Miss Eischler and Ms Chetty are planning on organising the event twice a year so that the children feel like they have something to look forward to every six months.

Miss Eischler also wants to make it clear that the main sponsors who were involved in this event wish to remain anonymous.

“The fact that the donors don’t want their names to be published shows that the donations come from the heart. We encourage more people to get involved,” she said.
