Seychelles invited to take part in Venice Art Biennale 2015 |21 February 2014

The Seychelles Ministry of Tourism and Culture has said it is studing a proposal presented by Nitin Shroff, a Seychellois professional photographer based in Europe, to take part in the Venice Art Biennale 2015.
Nitin Shroff, a curator at the Venice Art Biennale 2015, presented the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange and principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose with a proposal to bring on board a group of well established Seychellois visual artists to take part in the exhibition.

According to Mr Shroff, Seychelles’ presence in Venice Art Biennale 2015 “will be an ideal exposure for Seychellois artists”.

“The Venice Art Biennale which translates as the Olympic for artists, has the potential to position Seychelles on the world culture map of visual artists. The Venice Art Biennale is a treasure trove of renown arts collections and will bring publicity to Seychelles,” said Mr Shroff.

The proposal put forward by Mr Shroff in the presence of local artist Egbert Marday is for Minister St Ange to support the project for the setting up of a Seychellois pavilion of well established visual artists at the Venice Art Biennale to be held from June to November 2015.

Mr Shroff explained that he has compiled a proposed list of Seychelles visual artists that will now need to be updated after feedback from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Minister St Ange said his ministry is “keen to embark on such an interesting project which represents a great revolution for Seychellois visual artists to make themselves heard and seen”.

Minister St Ange added that a “Seychelles pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale 2015 can only become a reality and seen as a success story for Seychellois visual artists if the support of the local painting community is forthcoming”.
