Seychelles takes chairmanship of EAPCCO sub-bodies |22 February 2014

Delegates from the Eastern Africa Police Chief Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) are in the country for the sub-committees’ meeting and for Seychelles to take over chairmanship of the organs within EAPCCO.

These are the Permanent Coordinate Committee (PCC), legal, training and planning, gender and the newly formed IT committee.

The two-day meeting which was officially launched yesterday is being held at the Regional Anti-Piracy Prosecutions and Intelligence Coordination Centre (Rappicc) on Bois de Rose Avenue.

Present at the official opening ceremony were EAPCCO chairperson and local police commissioner Ernest Quatre, PCC’s outgoing chairperson Grace Akullo, head of Interpol’s regional bureau in Nairobi, Kenya, Ebers Dierdrich from the German embassy who is also based there, Andreas Andreou and Françoise Dorcier from Interpol Lyon France, and delegates from EAPCCO member state countries.

In his address, Mr Quatre said the meeting will help enhance the progress in providing strategic framework for the effort made in combating transnational and other types of crime.

“You have to deliberate on several pertinent issues that EAPCCO has achieved and also the challenges we are facing in our fight against transnational, regional and domestic crimes and others,” he said.

Mr Quatre added that this should help the delegates to come up with strategies to effectively deal with the existing challenges.

During the meeting, the delegates are also expected to review the previous resolutions and draft new ones to submit to the PCC.

Speaking to journalists, Mr Quatre said the meeting will give the delegates the chance to identify difficulties being faced by the member states, to see the resolutions they have worked on so far and to see where improvement is needed.

Mr Quatre said it is important to set a new way forward and to have a common goal in combating these crimes.

The delegates took part in a three-day workshop prior to this one to discuss counter-terrorism strategies.
