Libya’s third revolution anniversary celebrated at Bravo |22 February 2014

The third anniversary of the February 17, 2011 Libyan revolution was celebrated at a reception on Thursday at the Bravo Restaurant at Eden Island.

Libyan Chargé d’affaires Khairi E. Elalem and Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam made a toast to the health of the two countries and peoples.

Mr Elalem noted the many achievements and progress Libya has made during the last three years. Those include the newly made democratic institutions, the establishment of a high commission for elections, the election of the general national congress and prime minister, as well as the election of mayors and elections for the constitution drafting committee.

He also noted that Libya truly earned the football African Nations Championships last month and was also elected to the membership of the council of African peace and security of the African Union.
Mr Elalem added that he is looking forward to a positive and fruitful cooperation with all countries on the basis of mutual respect.

For his part, Minister Adam spoke about how powerful and inspiring the Libyan people’s determination is and told the gathering this is an opportunity for them not to lose sight of these values as they continue the journey of the transition process.
“This is a day to celebrate and exercise the rights that they fought hard to obtain,” said Mr Adam.

He also spoke of last year’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity- African Union (OAU-AU) which he believes is a reminder that as Africans we must work together to make sure the people of Africa control their own destiny and also dedicate themselves to the sustainable progress of Africa.

Minister Adam is confident that although there is still a long way to go, the strong commitment of the Libyan people will prevail over all forms of attempts that seek to undermine the democratic transition.
