Philip Toussaint, Telcy best Seychellois artists for 2013
Philip Toussaint and Telcy have been respectively voted the best male and female Seychellois artists for the year 2013.
They received the award during the Airtel Music Awards ceremony held on Saturday evening at the International Conference Centre (ICCS).
Both artists declared after the show that they felt that the award had come as a result of their hard work during 2013 and also as a reward for their contribution to the local music industry.
They have promised to continue working hard in order to be back next year.
The year 2013 award, the second in a row, rewarded songs released between November 2012 and December 2013.
Among other rewards, the award for best new recording artist went to Travis while the traditional award category was won by Ralph.
The best duo were Jahkim and Ion Kid while Regi has been the public’s favourite, winning the public’s choice award.
Saxophonist Jean Quatre, the only nominee in the instrumental category, went away with this award.
The honorary award rewarding an artist who has made a remarkable contribution to Seychelles’ music went to veteran composer, musician and singer Douglas Cedras.
Joe Samy won the award for best song with ‘Mon pei byenneme’. Joe recounts that he wrote the song while he was ill on a hospital bed. He said he was inspired by the will to be cured, leave hospital and see his beloved country again.
The Airtel Music Awards ceremony which had attracted a fairly large crowd, also featured songs by other artists such as Jany, Joenise Juliette and Vurna.
