Indian association donates wall clocks to schools |04 March 2014

Students and staff of the Plaisance and Mont Fleuri primary schools are delighted to have received a generous donation of wall clocks.

The donation comes from the Indian Association of Seychelles which says it has 1,000 clocks to distribute in schools across Mahé.

Formed in 2008, the association’s 80 members have since been contributing to the society, namely at the home for the elderly by distributing breakfast to the elderly and hosting a Christmas lunch for them as well.

“Over the years the association has ‘adopted’ many schools, such as Port Glaud and Bel Ombre schools providing them with educational materials and any other equipment they might need for about a year,” said Vijay Patel, chairman of the Indian Association.

He added that even after the one-year duration, the association continues to provide a small budget to the schools to ensure that they are well taken care of.

While the donation’s main purpose is to ensure that students and teachers understand the importance of timeliness, the Indian Association also sees this gesture as a way of showing its presence, and reminding the public that it is here to help and to support.

Plaisance school head teacher Sabrina Agathine and her counterpart from the Mont Fleuri school, Steve Hoareau, thanked the association and expressed their confidence that the donation will not just be of great use, but will also inspire the same giving attitude to the future generations.
