23 new nurses officially join profession |04 March 2014

A new group of 23 nurses were officially welcomed into their new profession last week after receiving their certificates of registration.

They received their registration package – which includes a certificate, licence, copies of the Nurses and Midwives Act 1985 caps 150, Nurses and Midwives Regulations and code of ethics and professional conducts – in a ceremony held at the Sheikh Khalifa diagnostic centre last Friday.

The ceremony, organised by the Seychelles Nurses and Midwives Council, was attended by council members and other health officials.

Addressing those present at the ceremony, the council’s chairperson Lina Philoe said nursing as a profession embodies many values that are inherent in those who pursue this career.

“Once registered and licensed, you will hold personal responsibility and accountability for the care you provide to patients and clients,” she said.

Mrs Philoe added that professional and ethical values form the foundation of nursing and midwifery practice, thus must be the driving force for all actions and interactions.
The new nurses also pledged to uphold their profession regardless of the circumstances and to perform their duties to the best of their ability, at all times.
