Music and dance students receive certificates |06 March 2014

students of the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) have received their certificates after completing various music and dance courses.

The certificate presentation ceremony took place last week at the Theatre de Palmes, Mont Fleuri in the presence of the principal secretary for Culture, Benjamine Rose.

In a short speech for the occasion, the NCPA director, Pierre Joseph, described the day as a most rewarding one for all efforts the students have put in their individual practices.

He also thanked parents for their support and goodwill towards their children’s music and dance lessons.

He cited the different types of exams in the music and dance curriculum and the organisations they have to work with, such as the Seychelles Qualifications Authority, for authenticity of certificates.

The students got their certificates for dance imperial ballet, dance modern theatre, music theory examinations and music practical examinations. These categories have different grades and standards. For dance imperial ballet there were standards for primary, 1 and 2; grades one to four and inter foundation category which is the highest standard in this course.

As for the dance modern theatre there were standard primary; grades one to six and theatre Licenciate which was awarded to the NCPA’s head of dance, Daniella Rose, who is the sole winner of this award.

The certificates for both categories were presented by Mr Joseph.

For the music theory category there were certificates for grades one to six which were presented by both PS Rose (for grades five and 6 which are higher grades in this category) and Mr Joseph (for grades one to four).

In the music practical examinations the students were tested in piano, guitar, singing, clarinet and violin. The certificates in this category were presented by Mr Joseph.

There were music and dance performances in between the certificate presentations. A ballet dance piece was performed by students aged 8-10 years, while Shujatha Chettar performed on the violin and Michel Farabeau played the guitar.

The ceremony ended with a guitar ensemble by students from the School of Music.
