Female youths inspired by successes of older peers |10 March 2014

Female youths have had the chance to hear about the successes of their older peers so that they in turn could be inspired to reach greater heights in their lives.

This took place during an activity on Saturday organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) and the Youth Services Bureau to mark the International Women’s Day which fell on that day.
Young females present for the activity were introduced to information and stories about inspirational women.

The events for the day also included an inspirational women’s day reflection by Bernadette Barbier and special performances by two male artists – Jean-Marc Volcy and Philippe Toussaint – whose poetry and song pay tribute to the great influence that women have had in their lives.

Female youth workers who have been in service for the past 30 years received a pleasant surprise in the form of an unexpected gift for their great work and devotion during these three decades.

Those present then enjoyed and educated themselves through an exhibition showcasing some of the great Seychellois women – past and present – for their great work and the difference they have made to the Seychelles society.

Some of the women featured in the exhibition were the late minister Danielle De St Jorre, Captain Nicole Chang-Leng, Sister Claire Houareau, Giovanna Rousseau, Geva Rene, Sergeant Mellie Clothilde, Judge Mathilda Twomey and Jany De Letourdie.
