'Values for One, Values for All' programme |11 March 2014

March dedicated to ‘responsibility’

‘Responsibility’ is the value chosen for the month of March under the 'Values for One, Values for All' (Valer pour Mwan, Valer pour Nou Tou) programme initiated by the youth department and the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

This month’s value was launched during a special assembly at the Anse Boileau secondary school yesterday morning.

Guests at the ceremony included principal secretary for youth Alain Volcère, deputy chief executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council Alvin Laurence, the district’s member of the National Assembly Bernard Arnephy, head boy of the English River secondary school Stanio Sally, among others.

Anse Boileau secondary school’s head girl Emma Didon noted that responsibility, along with honesty and respect, are core values for living honourably.

Throughout this month the students will hopefully be more aware of being responsible whether it is through taking care of duties and being dependable, all the while understanding the concept of accountability.

The school’s head teacher, Mariette Esparon, began her speech by recognising the school as a value-based institution.

She also announced that the ceremony was not only to launch the value ‘responsibility’ for this month, but also the start of a song, poem, public speaking, and poster competition at house level.

The school hopes that the competition will complement this month’s chosen value as an additional incentive for the students to live that value in their everyday lives.

The winners of the competition will be rewarded with house points and have their work displayed in an exhibition all around the walls of the main school compound.

The exhibition will take place on March 28 and the school is welcoming parents and guests to come and view it.

At the end of the ceremony a song was performed by a group of students while Sheila Dodin offered a vote of thanks on behalf of the Parent-Teachers Association.
