President James Michel’s 10 years in office |16 April 2014

Commemorative exhibition moves to ICCS

The exhibition marking President James Michel’s 10 years in office is now set up in the lobby of the International Conference Centre (ICCS) where it will run for three days.

Employees of public sector organisations are cordially invited to view the commemorative exhibition which will remain open from 10am to 4pm on each of the three days (from April 15-17).

The exhibition, under the theme ‘Judge me by my actions’, was officially launched on Monday morning at State House.

Welcoming visitors to the exhibition at the ICCS lobby yesterday, the chief secretary for public service, Jessy Esparon, recalled that on his inauguration as President on April 14, 2004, Mr Michel had dedicated himself to the service of all Seychellois and asked them to judge him by his actions.

“So the exhibition highlights some of the numerous actions in honouring his commitments to the people of Seychelles,” Ms Esparon said.

“He has not only kept his promise but his actions have shown him to be a man of vision, with the leadership and courage to make that vision become a reality,” she added.

“Over the last ten years the economic landscape of Seychelles has been transformed, and with it we have seen progress in every sector of Seychellois society. Our country is now recognised worldwide for its progressive outlook, and for leading by example in environmental protection, renewable energy, maritime protection and development, enhancing good governance, promoting tourism, business, developing natural resources, encouraging innovation, playing its part in international diplomacy,” said Ms Esparon.

But she also acknowledged there are challenges to be overcome, while noting that President Michel has always exhorted Seychellois to remain realistic, resilient, responsible, innovative, determined and persevering in the search for solutions and for a better life for all Seychellois.

“The success of the President is reflected in the hard work and success of all Seychellois. I am sure that as we view the exhibition, we shall see how our personal contribution has shaped, in one way or another, the development of our beloved country,” she said.

The chief secretary noted that the public service is proud to have played its part in the President's accomplishments and is sure the public will wish to join her in congratulating President Michel for his dynamic leadership and wishing him continued success.

Just to mention three of the many interesting and inspiring themes and quotes describing some of the photos on display in the exhibition:

CLIMATE CHANGE: “Seychelles is a leader in the fight against climate change … our voice has been heard through the courage, determination, zeal, tenacity of President Michel who is not willing to compromises the future of our environment.”

AVEK LEPEP: “Prezidan Michel ti promet lepep Seselwa ki i pou en prezidan pour tou Seselwa. In delivre son promes … in reste konnekte avek son pep.”

From the ICCS lobby, the exhibition will move to the Bel Ombre district administration on Tuesday April 22 for viewing by people in the northern region.
