Graduation ceremony - Eddy Bistolet best SIT student for 2013 |25 April 2014

Eddy Bistolet has received the best performer award and the cup offered by President James Michel as the outstanding SIT (Seychelles Institute of Technology) graduate for the year 2013.

He received the award from the hands of the Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon at the institute’s graduation ceremony held at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) yesterday afternoon.

Eddy, who has been described as an exceptional and exemplary student both academically and in extra-curricular activities, was also the best performer in the carpentry and joinery course.

Also present at the ceremony were the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly David Pierre, other members of the National Assembly, principal secretary for education Merida Delcy, teachers and parents.

Students were equally rewarded for outstanding performances in their respective programmes. Top of the class in their masonry and painting and decorating classes, Colin Maillet and Ashley Padayachy were also the best performers in the respective certificate and advanced certificate programmes.

The other best performers were Jean-Paul Sinon (electrical installation), Vince Morel (plumbing), Shoun Samedi (refrigeration and air conditioning), Lonny Bristol (electrical electronics), Jean-Pierre Estico (mechanical engineering) and  Ronny Bamboche (motor vehicle mechanic).
The prize for the most improved student went to Andy Talma.

The acting director of SIT, Hubert Barbé, has described 2013 as a very exciting year at the school, with the start of implementation of the 2013-2017 strategic plan. This has included the introduction of new programmes such as a City and Guilds telecommunications and mechanical engineering programme, and the upgrading of others.

Mr Barbe has highlighted the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Air Seychelles in November last year as another of the institution’s successes. The MoU has resulted in the recruitment by the national airline of four graduates, with the possibility for them to pursue further training at the Etihad Academy in Abu Dhabi.
The acting director has congratulated the graduates, asking those joining the world of work to keep in touch with training.

“[...] This should not be the end of your training target. Learning is lifelong, and the SIT is always looking forward to receiving you for upgrading trainings in the future. You can always get in touch with SIT for assistance and support in your long journey of development and progress in life”, he told his past students.

Altogether, 142 graduates who had followed courses at certificate, advanced certificate and diploma level received their certificates during yesterday’s ceremony.
