SPDF gets new clinic and barrack |06 June 2014

The Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) has got a new medical centre and barrack donated by the President of the United Arabs Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The clinic and barrack are situated at the Defence Forces premises on Ile Perseverance, just before the Coast Guard base entrance.

The facilities were officially opened yesterday by the Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier Leopold Payet and the UAE vice-admiral Chief Naval Staff Ibrahim Salim Mohamed Al-musharrakh, in the presence of high ranking officers of the SPDF, the naval staff of the UAE, Seychelles Police and the Indian Army.

In a small speech to open the facilities, Brigadier Payet said: “The health and well-being of the SPDF service personnel is of utmost importance to the SPDF. Good health has also a positive effect on the productivity of the members of the armed forces.”

The clinic is equipped with three examination rooms, blood collection room, a chief medical officer’s room, treatment room, an emergency room and pharmacy and it has the capacity to check over 50 patients per day.

“SPDF has taken a stance to give the prior importance to the health care of its servicemen through its policies and facilities that are now available in the new medical centre. Likewise the new barrack has been designed to cater for new academy staff and trainees. It is also equipped with appropriate facilities that will provide more comfort to servicemen and hence the SPDF expects that the quality of output from the academy in the future will be greatly increased,” Brigadier Payet added.

The barrack is designed to take in 64 persons including trainees and academy staff.

Brigadier Payet also expressed his “sincere gratitude to our Commander in Chief President James Michel and His Highness Sheikh Khalifa who have made possible this memorable event in the history of the SPDF”.
