Win a Honda CR-V as Regatta lottery star prize |28 June 2014

Fancy driving a Honda CR-V? You can be the proud owner of one if you buy a ticket and your number comes up.

This is the star prize of this year’s Regatta lottery launched last weekend by Round Table Seychelles (RTS).  It is sponsored by RTS and Honda.

This year’s 41st Regatta will take place during the weekend of September 26-28 and is one of the biggest fundraising events nationally driven by a dynamic team of 10 young men and honorary members who make up the Round Table.

Last year 101,000 lottery tickets were sold and this year the organisers are targeting to sell over 150,000 tickets to raise money to fund a cancer project which amounts to R1.1 million in favour of the Ministry of Health.

The emphasis will be placed on a ‘Regatta with a difference’ by raising awareness about cancer – a concern close to many hearts.
The RTS donated an ultra-sound machine to the Ministry of Health for the detection of prostate cancer from the proceeds of the 2012 Regatta lottery.

Other than the star prize, ticket holders have the chance to win 20 additional attractive prizes like a Samsung 51” TV and hi-fi set, two return tickets to Sri Lanka and much more.
Vincent Kim Koon spoke of how cancer affects us all, saying it doesn’t differentiate between age, gender or status.

“The fight against cancer needs to be a collaborative effort of joint forces on all fronts to really make a difference in reducing the rate of deaths and loss from the disease,” said Mr Kim Koon.

Dr Danny Louange explained that cancer is the second cause of death in Seychelles.

“Cancer can affect a society gravely. It is not only the loss but also the burden it brings to the family and community,” he said.

Dr Louange also said that the only way to tackle cancer is to develop a programme which looks at the broad aspects of cancer from the prevention stage, screening, treatment and rehabilitation.

He also stressed that in order to prevent such diseases, there is also a need to change our lifestyle as one of the main causes of cancer is obesity, which can easily be controlled or reduced.
The most common cancers in males are prostate and colorectal while in females it is breast, cervix and colorectal.
Special programmes will be developed and new equipment needed for detection of cancer will be acquired.
