The annual Olympic quiz competition was held last week where schools competed in four categories, testing their knowledge about various topics centred on the Olympics and Commonwealth.

In the primary category, it was the Anse Aux Pins school’s team of Emma Balette, Stephanie Joseph and Shania Joseph who won the final on a 12-11 score against Beau Vallon primary’s Kimberly Barbé, Francois Toussaint and Hope Rusteau.

In the secondary category, it proved to be a battle between Mont Fleuri and Pointe Larue as they met in all three finals.

For the S1-S2 category, Zarrus Uranie, Joshua Henri and Sophie Ng won it for Mont Fleuri on a 12-8 score. The Pointe Larue team consisted of Ian Gabriel, Lester Tirant and Sheena Leste.

It was the Pointe Larue team of Stacey Nancy, Wendena Dookley and Chloe Edmond who managed to just edge out Mont Fleuri’s Francesca Ng, Neil Sirame and Brigitte Cavé on a 10-9 score in the S3-S4 category.

The S5 category saw the two schools battle one last time and it was the Pointe Larue team of Michaela Labonte, Debra Freminot and Angela Edmond who won the contest 14-12. Mont Fleuri’s team comprised Calvin Malbrook, Sachith Weligepola and Eloïse Pierre-Louis.

The competitors were each given a trophy for taking part, with the winning school also receiving a shield as prize, which was presented by Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) secretary general Alain Alcindor.

The Olympic quiz is organised every year in order to promote and educate young students about the Olympic and Commonwealth ideals and values
