Youths praised, rewarded for National Day mass display |14 July 2014

The International Conference Centre (ICCS) was filled with happy youthful faces on Friday afternoon for a ceremony organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) to honour the youths for taking part in the National Day mass display.

Present at the event was Vice-President Danny Faure, Mayor of Victoria Jacqueline Moustache-Belle, SNYC chief executive Vicky van der Westhuizen, principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose, among many other distinguished guests.

In his address, Vice-President Faure spoke of the belief the Seychelles government has in the youths;
“If we are here today, it is because we believe in the ability and the capacity of our youths,” he said.

He added that even after many hours of training under the scorching sun, the youngsters still kept their spirits high and did what they had to do to make the event a success.

“This year you have accomplished something that Seychelles has never seen before through your displays. You have made your parents, your teachers and your country proud!” added Mr Faure.

He also thanked the Chinese embassy who provided two coaches to help the students in their training.

Towards the end of the ceremony, different groups collected their certificates of appreciation on stage. These include the Young Citizens, President’s Award, District Youth Club, Seychelles Scouts, Gold Award Association which formed part of the different platoons that marched on June 18.

Some 427 youths from different schools who were involved in the display were also awarded according to their group colour – blue, yellow, red, white and green – representing the colours of the Seychelles flag.

The last group to receive certificates of appreciation were the youth workers.
