Eddie Micock celebrates 40 years as an optometrist |18 July 2014

Vice-President Danny Faure yesterday paid a visit to well-known optometrist
Eddie Micock as he celebrated 40 years in his career.

Mr Faure, who was accompanied by health minister Mitcy Larue and her principal secretary Peggy Vidot, congratulated Mr Micock on his hard work and dedication in this field.

Mr Micock said he has been practicing this career way back before setting up his private office twenty years ago in Mahé.
Upon his return to Seychelles in 1975 after his studies in London, Mr Micock worked at the hospital and started the eye clinic there.
But after a while he went overseas to Australia and the UK where he set up his own practices.

“Then I decided that I wanted to work for my people, so I came back to Seychelles 20 years later, in 1994. I am very happy now to see a community of people who are aware of the need for good eye care,” said Mr Micock, adding that slowly but surely the Seychellois people are starting to appreciate the necessity to check their eyes regularly.

He said he has good working relationships with the Ministry of Health where sometimes patients are referred to his practice when the ministry sees there is a need for it.

His statement was seconded by Minister Larue who said her ministry works in close collaboration with Mr Micock in this area and that this working relationship is being strengthened.

She added that it also helps to relieve pressure on the ministry and government with regard to that service.

Talking on his plans for the future, Mr Micock said: “I am thinking of setting up another branch of optometry service because as the Seychellois people are seeing the necessity to have their eyes checked, it means there is a demand for such a service.”
Mr Micock is also a founder member of British College of Optimetrists.
