Seychelles represented at 20th anniversary of Rwandan Liberation Day |22 July 2014

A three-member delegation from the National Assembly headed by Jeovana Charles attended the Women In Parliaments (WIP) Global Forum, a Summer Summit held recently in Kigali.

Mrs Charles was accompanied by Murielle Marie and Tania Isaac from the secretariat.

The Summit which brought together female parliamentarians from around the globe was one of the many activities planned in Rwanda to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of their Liberation Day.

The members of the National Assembly gained a comprehensive insight into Rwandan society which is similar to Seychelles: a society founded on values of gender equality and female social, economic and political empowerment.

They discussed the role of women in peace, reconciliation and security.
The members also had the privilege of visiting the Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre-A museum located at the site of the massacre of more than 50,000 Tutsi people which took place on April 21, 1994.

The Seychelles delegation attended the 20th Anniversary of the Liberation Day ceremony as official guests.
The heads of States of South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Burundi were also present at the ceremony.
