Musicians play their part in values campaign |25 July 2014

As a way of promoting the ‘Values for One, Values for All’ initiative, the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) yesterday hosted a workshop for members of the association of musicians (Seymas).

The SNYC hall was filled with familiar faces such as Jean Ally, Mervin Camille, Marie Clarisse, Taniah Jeremie, Joseph Sinon, Tony Raspyek Joubert, John Wirtz, Ken Marie, Sandra Esparon, Telsy Carola, Michael (Ion Kid) Savy, David Andre, Joenise Juliette, Martin Lebon and others. It was the perfect mix of young and old guaranteed to create a great sharing and learning experience for all.

Jean Ally opened the session with a prayer and a song ‘En Tan Pour Tou’ while the rest of the musicians joined in.

The focus of the workshop was ‘Aspiration’, the value being promoted during this month of July. The guests managed to look at their aspirations for the year, their priorities and learn how to do action reviews and updates so that they do not remain stuck and can move on to achieving their goals.

The workshop was led by Beryl Dodin, a former teacher who is currently a counsellor. Although she specialises in bereavement counselling, she also conducts individual and group counselling.

“Counselling is becoming more important and needed in the lives of people today. It is my job to help those who have an emptiness to feel good without the use of drugs, sex or alcohol,” she said.

Ms Dodin also took the opportunity to encourage those who need the service to come and find her at the SNYC. She described her approach as non judgemental and remains confidential.

Ms Dodin believes that artists, especially musicians, play a very big role in the way they influence people. In turn they are also affected by spectators surrounding them and how they perceive themselves. It is therefore important that they remain positive in the way they make music.
