Minister Macsuzy Mondon’s official visit to Sri Lanka (July 7-11) |26 July 2014

Striving for quality education through international partnerships

With Education gearing its focus on ‘A Collective Engagement for Quality Education for All’, the Ministry of Education is continuously seeing new partnerships both local and on the international front to ensure that the standard and quality of education in Seychelles continues to improve.

Following the recent visit of the Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon to Sri Lanka, Seychelles is expected to benefit from increased cooperation with Sri Lanka particularly in the education sector. Through enhanced partnerships with the Sri Lankan government and other educational institutions in Sri Lanka, free scholarships for Seychellois students, research exchanges, partnerships and linkage programmes for local institutions, recruitment of quality expatriate teachers and training for Seychellois seafarers are some of the benefits the Seychelles education sector is expected to receive.

Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (Cinec)
During her visit Minister Mondon also attended the graduation ceremony of the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (Cinec) at which she was invited as the Guest of Honour and to deliver the Guest of Honour address.

Cinec is a maritime training college in Sri Lanka with which the Ministry of Education Seychelles has signed a three-year agreement since August 2013, following the State visit of President James Michel to Sri Lanka in August 2012. Under the agreement, Cinec assumed the management of the Maritime Training Centre (MTC) of Seychelles since October 1, 2013.

While in Sri Lanka the minister took the opportunity to visit the Cinec campus and meet 19 Seychellois students currently on training at the maritime college.
