Obituary: France Oreddy (30.10.1946 – 22.07.14) |26 July 2014

Veteran local singer France Oreddy dies

Popular in the 60s and 70s with his hit songs  Lo Sa Zil Diego and Kan Mon Ti kit Mahe, France Oreddy, local singer, guitarist and drummer has died.
Mr Oreddy passed away on Tuesday this week at the age of 67.

Originally an inhabitant of Anse Royale, Mr Oreddy -- a former employee of the PUC -- was until his death living at Pointe Larue.
He was a guitarist and composer with the kanmtole bands Rosario and Sidonie & The Nightingales.

Even though he did not continue to compose new songs over the years, Mr Oreddy did produce a record entitled Lo Sa Zil Diego in memory of the time he spent working on this island in the late 60s and 70s.

He also worked on Cosmoledo and Aldabra for some time.
Mr Oreddy was one of the founding members of the group Singers of Charity headed by singer Sonny Dogley.

More recently the group of singers has changed its name to Next Step. They perform around Victoria and at various entertainment events and activities to raise funds for charity causes and have helped quite a number of people in distress.

Sonny Dogley described Mr Oreddy as a father figure in the group. As he was  the oldest member, they all looked up to him for advice.
Mr Oreddy with all his musical experience and joie de vivre will surely be greatly missed.

Mr Oreddy’s funeral services was held yesterday at the St John Bosco church at Pointe Larue.
He leaves behind eight daughters (three of whom are adopted), a son, one sister and six brothers.
