Airtel staff clean and paint vocational training unit |29 July 2014

The atmosphere was joyful as Airtel staff joined employees and students of the Vocational Training Unit at North East Point on Saturday to clean the lawn and the building before giving the latter a new coat of paint.

Speaking to the media, Marie-Pierre Volcère, personal assistant to the managing director and corporate social responsibility (CSR) coordinator, said Airtel staff join their colleagues of the Vocational Training Unit at least once a month to clean the place.

“It’s a big thing for Airtel as we are giving back to the community. It’s also for the health of the disabled as they need to enjoy a clean environment. We call on other organisations to emulate Airtel,” said Mrs Volcère who pointed that there was a good mix of expatriates and locals who took time out of their busy schedule to come to do the voluntary work.

Airtel also presented three computer sets to the unit and Mrs Volcère explained that the disabled should be encouraged to develop their abilities to the fullest.

“By getting them to learn new computer skills, it might ease their integration into society,” added Mrs Volcère who noted that Airtel staff will be at the psychiatric unit of the Wellness Centre on Thursday to do some cleaning duties and present a computer set.
