Traffic survey to determine set-up of proposed bypass |01 August 2014

A traffic survey is being held to determine how a proposed bypass road in Victoria would be – whether it should have one or two lanes; its appropriate location; and where it will begin and end.

The survey, which started yesterday and will end tomorrow at 1pm, has been organised by the Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA) in collaboration with the department of transport and the Ministry of Land Use and Habitat.
It is being conducted by GIBB Consultancy.

The survey consists of motorists answering questions which will give the consultants ample information about the pattern of traffic flow for them to build the bypass.

The survey, which is called a ‘destination survey’, is being conducted by students from the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT) and they are based in four places – at the lay-by near the Land Waste Management Agency offices next to the bus terminal; along 5th June Avenue at the ex-entrance of the old Marine Charter car park; along the new lane on 5th June Avenue at the ex-entrance to the Yacht Club and along Latanier Road at the lay-bys of ICCS and/or Maison du Peuple.

The two main components to the survey are to collect information about the traffic flow in and out of those points and secondly to check which direction motorists are going when they enter those areas.

The students have to check and ask motorists where they come from, where they are going – whether straight home or passing through other places first; why they are using this road (for example whether for business or pleasure, bringing children to school, etc.).

This survey will allow the consultants to know the intensity and purpose of traffic flow in those mentioned areas.
Traffic wardens have also been placed at those survey points to give a helping hand.
