Young police officer buried with full military honours |02 August 2014

Young police officer Ericson Jules, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday after a hit-and-run incident, was buried with full military honours yesterday afternoon at the Mont Fleuri cemetery.

The funeral service took place at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Apart from his close family members, the ceremony which was presided over by Deacon Louis Agathine, assisted by Father Eric Leon, the Parish priest of Port Glaud under which Jules’ district of Grand Anse Mahe falls,  was also attended by the Minister for Home Affairs Joel Morgan, the Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier Leopold Payet, Police Commissioner Ernest Quatre, high officials and officers of the Seychelles Police and the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF).

Jules was performing spot check duties in the vicinity of the Vehicle Testing Station and Victoria South Petrol Station when he was hit by a vehicle who refused to obey orders to stop.

He died later at the Seychelles Hospital from multiple injuries.

Deacon Agathine offered condolences to the bereaved family members on behalf of the President of the Republic, James Michel, and on his own behalf.

He described the deceased as a serious officer who was very disciplined in his work and persevered a lot to be where he wanted to be.

But he also warned that it is not for us to judge but to let the law do its work.

Deacon Agathine also advised against taking and circulating photos of victims online as this practice hurts the ber
eaved family members more.
Deacon Agathine also told police officers present that they should do their work loyally, with dignity and pride.

Ericson Jerold Moise Jules hailed from the Grand Anse Mahé district and was born on November 15, 1994. He is from a family of two boys and two sisters. He was baptised, did his First Holy Communion and Confirmation at the Sainte Famille de Nazareth church at Grand Anse Mahé. He went to Grand Anse primary school and afterwards attended the Anse Boileau secondary school.

Mr Jules joined the Seychelles Police Force on February 20, 2012 on the Cadet Constable programme. He was a quiet student in class but he was a young man full of energy as these were clearly visible during trainings and physical exercise. His favorite sports was karate and was a member of the Tangsudo club.

Constable Jules was described as a person who worked hard with perseverance and engagement to reach the desired level. He became interested in the traffic police after doing attachments. After his eighteen months of training he received his Certificate in Policing. He then went to work in the Traffic Police section of the Seychelles Police. Constable Jules was described as a friendly person full of ‘joie de vivre.’

Ericson Jules leaves behind his father Eric Jules, his mother Innocente Morel, his sisters Elmonda Jules and Shanita Jules and brother Rouvani Jules.
