Careers’ Week 2014 as from next Monday |06 August 2014
The annual Careers’ Week organised by the Ministry of Education with the collaboration of the labour department for the benefit of secondary and post-secondary students kicks off this coming Monday.
The theme chosen for this year’s edition is: ‘A responsible work force for a sustainable economy’.
The launch of the event -- which will go on for four days until Thursday August 14 -- will be held at the Anse Royale theatre and will include a symposium under the theme ‘Our responsibility in meeting the country’s human resources needs’. The seminar will bring together all actors and partners in career development such as the ministries responsible for Public Administration, Education, Labour and Human Resources and Community Development. It will also involve district administrations, churches, schools, parents as well as organisations like the Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD) and the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC).
Two other education workshops will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the SITE Auditorium. The same venue will on Thursday accommodate a ‘Careers’ Education Fair’, with a similar activity going on at the Baie Sainte Anne district administration office on Praslin at the same time.
Vocational training has not been forgotten as a TVET (Technical and Vocational Education Training) day will also be organised in all secondary schools on Wednesday.
During the week, the Ministry of Education will also lead a media campaign with television and radio programmes as well as newspaper articles.
Children and their parents are being invited to take part in the Careers Week activities in order to gain information about careers, training and employment opportunities. More importantly, students who represent tomorrow’s work force are being called on to seize the opportunity to make the right professional choice.
