Japanese magician thrills |11 August 2014

“Wow…” was all that one could hear in the room at the Espace building on Saturday afternoon, where Japanese magician Max Watanabe was thrilling a group of children from the orphanages with his tricks.

Mr Watanabe, who was on holiday here in Seychelles since last Tuesday, left Seychelles yesterday. Despite his short visit, Mr Watanabe found time to do some charity gesture by performing for the kids from the different orphanages on Mahé.

“Mr Wanatabe expressed his wishes to perform for the kids with Mason’s Travel and the company contacted us the Soroptimist Club to organise this event,” Cecile Hodoul, the president of the Soroptimist Club, told Seychelles Nation.

The children were very excited to see the magic tricks; they hardly blinked their eyes when Mr Watanabe turned a piece of burning paper into a R50 note. They were all jumping up and down on their chairs when he made a confetti out of a small piece of paper.

The Soroptimist Club also organised a small get together for the kids where they shared some snacks, refreshments and ice cream.

Even if the show was meant for the kids from the orphanages as published in the weekend issue of the Seychelles Nation newspaper, there were other people who came to see the magic tricks that Mr Wanatabe was performing.

“I read the article in today’s (Saturday’s) Seychelles Nation saying that the Japanese magician will be performing and I just had to come as I love magic tricks. I was prepared to pay for me to watch. But the organisers willingly allowed us to attend the show,” a lady said with excitement.
The accompanying photographs show Mr Watanabe performing some of his acts.
